John F. Connaway, affectionately known as "Buck," passed away at home on March 27, 2015, with his family by his side. He was 78 years old.He was born on November 24, 1936, to the union of John Henry Connaway and LaVara Henrietta George of Vona, CO. The family relocated to Delta, CO, during the Dust Bowl when Buck was a year old. John F. Connaway, affectionately known as "Buck," passed away at home on March 27, 2015, with his family by his side. He was 78 years old.He was born on November 24, 1936, to the union of John Henry Connaway and LaVara Henrietta George of Vona, CO. The family relocated to Delta, CO, during the Dust Bowl when Buck was a year old. He grew up in Delta and graduated from the Delta High School.Buck married Janet Mae Gore on June 11, 1955, in Delta, CO. He and Janet moved to Grand Junction in 1985, where he started a plumbing contracting business, Connaway & Company, Inc.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction, CO. Buck also was a Past Exalted Ruler, and lifetime member, of the Delta BPOE #1235, and a member of Wheels West Car Club of Grand Junction, CO.Buck volunteered his services to Grand Mesa Little League, loved boating on Lake Powell, was an avid Broncos and NASCAR fan, a life-long New York Yankees fan, a high school football referee, and still found time to attend all of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Buck never met a stranger.He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joan Helen Connaway.Buck is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Janet, Grand Junction, CO; his son, James "Jim" (Lynn Silipigni) Connaway, Grand Junction, CO; his daughter, Debra (David) Whiteside, Loma, CO; his sister, Merna Rae (John) Pope, Delta, CO; his grandchildren, Christopher (Destiny and a future great-grandchild) Whiteside and Peter Whiteside; and his great-grandchild, Trevor Whiteside, all of Grand Junction, CO.A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church, 522 White Avenue, Grand Junction, CO.
